       Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. Put simply, civil engineers build bridges, roads, canals, dams, tall buildings, and other large structures.

Civil engineering was originally defined simply to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering but it actually represents so much more. Without civil engineers we wouldn’t have a constant supply of clean water, roads or trains to get to work in the morning, or sustainable energy to help us save our planet.

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2009. The B.E. (Civil) program was duly approved and accredited by the AICTE and Affiliated to Anna University. An intake of 60 was sanctioned initially. Subsequently, in the year 2012, an additional intake of 60 was sanctioned. The department activities are fully supported by the dedicated and qualified faculty. The department has well experienced faculty and staff members of proven track record in the field of Civil Engineering. All faculties are having a minimum qualification of post graduate degree including 2 faculty members with Ph.D qualification. The Faculty members in the department are periodically attending workshops and conferences to upgrade their skills. In addition, the department also organizes workshops, seminars, symposiums and staff development programme to expose about the recent developments.

Mission of Department

·         To generate a specialized cadre of Civil Engineering by imparting training through the state of the art laboratories and updated hardware and software

·         To excel in R&D and industrial consultancy with linkages in India and bring teaching, research and consultancy to international standards in the field of civil Engineering.

Vision of Department

Specially trained human resources at Department of Civil Engineering, PEC will handle critical areas in system Planning, Design and Rehabilitation management of the infrastructure for giving much needed impetus for economic development and improve quality of life, meeting the social needs.

Program Outcomes (PO)

·         Able to apply the fundamental knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.

·         Able to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.

·         Able to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.

·         Able to function on multidisciplinary teams.

·         Able to identify, formulate, and solve Civil Engineering problems in accordance with Indian standard codes of practice.

·         Able to understand the role of Civil Engineers and ethical responsibility.

·         Able to deliver effective verbal, written, and graphical communications.

·         Able to work on the basis of broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.

·         Able to recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.

·         Able to incorporate specific contemporary issues into the identification, formulation, and solution of a specific civil engineering problem.

·         Able to use the techniques, skills, and modern civil engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.

·      Able to perform economic analysis, quality checks, time/labour management and cost estimates related to design, construction, operations and maintenance of systems in the civil technical specialties.

·         Able to plan and prepare design and construction documents, such as specifications, contracts, change orders, engineering drawings, and construction schedules.

·           Able to apply their knowledge of four technical areas within the general discipline of    civil engineering (Environmental; Hydraulics & Hydrology: structure: mechanics &materials; Transportation).

·         An understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply to one’s own work, as a member & leader in a team, to manage projects.
